Born in 1955 in the Havana, Leonardo Padura is one of the most famous Cuban writers. He had to face the intolerance and the censorship of the seventies because of his dissepiment for the Castro’s government and his non respect of the political correctness; hard time for the Cuban literature. He started his career as a journalist for the El Caimán Barbudo and then for the Juventud Rebelde, before starting to write. The freedom and the death of the biggest socialist utopia of the XX° century are ones of the biggest topics with which the author deals in his novels. Those novels are the testimony of a painful historic reality for a Cuban society chained by dictatorship.
